Mamedovo Gorge is a beautiful and easily accessible place near Lazarevskoye. Delve into the Colchis forest with cool waterfalls, limestone gorges and a lake!
In the area of Lazarevsky it is most interesting attraction, therefore, we definitely recommend going along at least one of the routes in the Mamedov Gorge.
Routes in the Mamedov Gorge
There are three interesting routes in the gorge, of which we have visited only two so far:
- "Berendee's kingdom"... The most easily accessible is right next to the piste. You just need to go along the suspension bridge, and you are already in the magic kingdom. There are waterfalls, baths under them, spreading oaks and a dolmen. Popular with families with children, as there is a cafe with Berendey's throne and wooden figurines of fairy-tale characters. Entrance fee is 200 rubles.
- "Legends of Mamed"... It is located a little further than the track. We did not have time to visit this route. There is a dolmen, a waterfall and a stone blockage. Entrance fee is 200 rubles.
- "Mamedovo gorge"... Coolest route! It is located about 2 km from the highway, and in the gorge you will feel a complete detachment from civilization. There are 4 beautiful waterfalls, a transparent mountain river, the White Hall and the canyon of desires. Entrance fee is 200 rubles.
Here I will tell only about the third, most interesting and beautiful gorge. Read separately about "Berendey's kingdom". And I will write about the "Legends of Mamed" when we visit.
What to see in Mamedov gorge
The route starts through the light Colchis forest. Lizards scatter underfoot, foliage rustles. Quiet, good. Follow the path until you see a fork. One path to the canyon, the other up to the waterfalls. Since the route is circular, I advise you to start from the waterfalls, and then go down to the river. While you are full of strength, you have to go up the hill!
The ascent to the waterfalls is simple, even children will master it. Bridges and staircases were made everywhere. Sometimes, instead of steps, there are tree roots.
The first to meet tourists waterfall of happiness, the second - Youth, the third - Love... According to the legend (how can you do without it!), What you want to find is in that waterfall and you need to swim.
Then there will be a viewing point to the waterfall "Beard Mamed" and descent to the picturesque canyon with white limestone walls... There are similar, but slightly different species in the Psakho canyon, the Svir gorge, at the very beginning of the Agursky falls.
After the descent, we turned right, where all the fun is. First, you will see, probably, one of the most unusual waterfalls - "Mamed's Beard"... Thin streams flow down the rock, completely overgrown with green and red moss! It looks a little like a beard, but if you turn on your imagination, then yes.
Just behind the waterfall - amazing White Hall... It is a high wall of layered white limestone that curves into a semicircle and hangs over the river. Here we hung for a long time, trying to capture this beauty - we recorded a video and looked for good angles.
The wonders of the gorge do not end there. If you go further to the exit from the gorge, which gradually narrows, you will reach Stone gate - a natural arch, the walls and ceiling of which are just like in a cave! They are covered with amazing sediments and formations that usually form in caves. By the way, wishes are usually made in this arch.
Well, after the arch - the road to the exit, here the route loops. It's a shame to come out of such a beautiful canyon!
How to get to Mamedovo gorge on your own
We drove to the gorge in our car from Lazarevskoye. From the road, at a very sharp turn, turn right to the village of Mamedova Shchel. Then drive about 2 km to the "U Leshego" cafe. There will be signs along the way, you won't get lost. In general, just enter the coordinates: 43.960451, 39.319464 into the navigator, otherwise you can easily skip the desired turn. These coordinates are a small parking lot at the cafe where we left the car, but you can drive down, a little further.
If you believe "Yandex.Maps", then by buses № 71, 80, 159, 161, 162 you can get from the railway "Lazarevskoe" to the stop "Mamedova Shchel". This stop is located near the entrance to the "Berendeevo kingdom". To get on the desired route, walk another 2 km along the asphalt road - this is about half an hour.
Helpful information
The path along the gorge is simple and short. With the slowest walk and constant photo stops, the entire route will take about 2 hours. At an average pace - 1 hour.
The entrance costs 200 rubles, but at the end of the season no one takes a fee. We were in the Mamedov Gorge at the end of October, and the ticket office was no longer working.
Dress lightly, but have a thin jacket with you, as the waterfalls and the canyon can be chilly. It is better to put on sneakers on your feet.
In October, after a long summer drought, there was almost no water in the canyon - we easily walked the river over the stones without getting our feet wet. However, immediately after the rains, the canyon can be full of water, and special shoes are needed, such as aqua shoes or rubber sandals. It is better to go in sneakers through the forest, and in the canyon, if there is a lot of water, change them to other shoes that you do not mind getting wet.
There is a cafe at the entrance to the route, but we did not go there. There are no shops, so bring water and snacks with you.
Parking for a couple of places is right in the pocket by the road, next to the cafe "U Leshego". However, you can drive a little further along the dirt road across the bridge - there are more places.
