As we went on a small hike to the most famous waterfall in the Dominican Republic - El Limon. Find out how much the entrance costs, how to get to the waterfall, whether it is worth a visit.

Early in the morning we drove to the waterfall from our village Las Galeras. It takes about an hour and a half to go.

Upon arrival, we were surrounded and attacked by members of the clan that controls the passage to the waterfall. By the way, there are as many as 7 such passages, and each one holds a separate clan. At first, they wanted to enter the left parking lot half a kilometer from the beginning of the trail, but I showed the cunning men to my navigator, they sighed sadly and let go.

At the next stage, they charge us for parking, then - for entrance tickets, and smoothly move on to the main thing - vparivanie transfer on horseback. We disagree. We are frightened by a difficult, blurred road We are not afraid. They are trying to snatch at least a boy to us, they say, how are we there without a guide, we will be lost! We are adamant. After difficult and unsuccessful negotiations, we are released on all four sides.

The road to El Limon Falls is easy except for a few things: four fords and tons of horse shit underfoot. Remember that horse that they tried to snatch us in? So, she is far from alone here, and we are almost the only tourists who could not be persuaded to drop off - all the others are dragged on by a poor cattle. The rights of pedestrians are severely restricted - they have to give way and jump along the path like in a minefield.

Nevertheless, the walk was pleasant, and the view of the waterfall towards the end of the track is simply magical. Straight postcard!

The waterfall is nice and close, picturesque. And the best thing about it is the wonderful natural pool. After a hike through the humid jungle, there is nothing more enjoyable than a dip in the cool water. There were not many people, and I was generally lucky to swim alone. The thrill is to swim straight up to the waterfall and look up at the flowing stream of water from there. Class!

Sometimes the local guys-guides do crazy somersaults, jumping into the water from a great height. My heart skips a beat. Impressive!

El Limon waterfall is not the highest in the Dominican Republic. His high -55 meters, and he's only in third place. It's just that the higher waterfalls are difficult to get to, so they are not as famous and popular as this one.

Should you visit El Limon? Yes, it is a beautiful waterfall and its pool is very cool. Try to arrive as early as possible so that there are fewer tourists.

After the waterfall, we had lunch and went to the most famous beach of Samana - Rincon. I will write about it separately.

  • $ 2 - tickets to El Limon waterfall.
