Guys from South Korea were with us on Safari
Safari in the UAE is the first excursion on the "must" list. Not even so much because of the jeep racing, but because of the real desert! We liked the safari tour in Dubai - especially because we found where to buy cheaperthan the tour operator or rare street agencies offer.
But there were also disadvantages to which it is easier to close your eyes. I'll start with what a jeep safari in Dubai consists of and what are the prices in 2021, because the program is far from just riding on the dunes in cars.
What is usually included in a jeep safari? Description of the excursion
This is how the cars on which Safari takes place in Dubai look like
The description and cost of the safari depends on the included "additional" options, with which this or that company lures the tourist. Someone can offer jeeps and dunes, and someone - jeeps, dunes and, for example, camels, and only a couple of dollars more. Who will the clients go to?
The most popular jeep excursion - evening, it includes:
- Transfer from and to the hotel
- Driver-guide
- Car racing (you are, of course, a passenger)
- Camel ride
- Watching the sunset and dinner in the "Bedouin camp" with photos in national costumes and belly dancing
Duration: 5-6 hours.
Cars: Jeep Land Cruiser.
Arabs would not be Arabs if they refused to offer paid special stages during the excursion - usually ATVs (200-250 dirhams for two), sandboarding and alcohol at a buffet table. You are free to refuse, no one will impose. For ATVs, just wait 20-30 minutes in the car or on a bench.
We chose morning jeep safari in Dubai - reviews of tourists about it are no worse. There were several reasons: it is cheaper, and does not "cut" all day after lunch, as in the case of the evening, ride in the morning and is free - the safari time is about 4 hours. And they did not regret it, I advise everyone to go in the morning if the sunset is not important.
The program is the same as in the list above, but instead of dinner, there is “breakfast” with tea and dates, and instead of belly dancing, there is sandboarding (this is when you go down the dune on a board like on a snowboard). We have booked this morning safari, it is in English, but with a guide literally a couple of words were thrown over “hello”, “how much”, “I like”, “photo” - in that spirit.
Is it possible with children? See the terms of the program. I have seen that children under 5 years old (somewhere under 3 years old) and pregnant women are not allowed to ride on the dunes.
How much is a Jeep Safari Tour in Dubai?
As I said above, prices vary and depend both on the time and composition of the excursion, and on the audacity of the company :) For the same price tag, there may be 40 or 60 dollars. I will indicate the adequate cost in the table.
Jeep Desert Safari Prices:
(per person)
Morning (in Russian) | — | — |
Evening (in Russian) | from $ 43 | from 3400 rubles |
Morning (eng) | from $ 40.5 | from 3300 rubles |
Evening (eng) | from $ 49 | from 4000 rubles |
Where to book? Online is cheaper. The cost on the spot at the tour operator or on the street - from $ 55 per person.
IF YOU ARE IMPORTANT TO RUSSIAN-SPEAKING ACCOMPANYING: see the range of safaris on the Russian sites for booking excursions Sputnik8 or Tripster.
IF YOU UNDERSTAND BASIC ENGLISH AND YOU'RE OK: watch safari on GetYourGuide - it's an international service.
Let me explain why we chose the second option: there is only a morning tour on Goetøgide + there are much more reviews about safari (11 thousand!) And they are good. There, foreign reviews are automatically translated into Russian, so they can be "clumsy", but the essence is clear.
By the way, the adult fare for a desert safari is applied for tourists from 12 years old, for children - from 3 to 11 years old. Moreover, the cost for a child's ticket is not much lower, only by 200-300 rubles.
My review about safari in Dubai - how is it? Tips
I specially made a screenshot of where Safari takes place (otherwise no one answered this question - and now you know)
From Dubai from the hotel we drove to the desert, where the "action" itself takes place, about 50 minutes. By the way, in English the jeep safari is called “Dune Bashing or Safari”. And the most annoying thing about him is that skating itself - for which everything is started - lasts at most 30 minutes.
The car is prepared - they let the air in the wheels a little (on new jeeps it seems to be done automatically) - and put it in a "column" behind others (only 3-5 of the same white jeeps with tourists), it looks like a caravan of camels :)
Desert racing - it's impressive. At first, the pace is weak, so, a little drifts, but sweat-oh-oh-oh…. I thought that the car was about to turn over, the turns were very steep, although the driver, of course, controls everything and performs such somersaults on purpose. DO NOT EAT AT LEAST 2 HOURS BEFORE THE EXCURSION !!!
After the caravan of cars stopped in the middle of the desert, and we were offered sandboarding - literally for 15-20 minutes, after which we drove towards the "Bedouin camp" (this is not a camp, of course), where the camels were waiting for us.
Camel ride I also rode for the first time in my life - an interesting experience ... but animals are badly treated. The desert safari in jeeps ended with Arabic coffee (which is with cardamom, and not very much for me personally) with dates. Well, there was Coca-Cola, oh, those modern Arabs :)
What is the best time for the excursion? The duration of the evening jeep safari differs from the morning one and is about 6-7 hours, which, in my opinion, does not make much sense, so I again advise you to take the day one. But if you want to watch the sunset in the desert, then the choice is probably understandable even without my advice.
How to dress? During the day, the desert is a little colder than in the city, so on the morning safari we are dressed in the photo as we went in late December in Dubai. But in the evening it gets colder here, grab a warm thing.
What if I don't know English ?? The language of the excursion does not play any role, many of the participants in our trip did not speak English, and this did not bother them in any way.
What if I'm not from Dubai? Read the conditions carefully, usually Dubai organizers agree to pick up tourists from Sharjah and Ajman for free. From other emirates, you can either negotiate for an additional fee, or take an excursion directly from this emirate - look at the same services.
What other excursions have we visited in Dubai?
I advise you to fly by helicopter (in Dubai, this excursion is one of the most profitable in the world, so where if not here? So I thought so)
I recommend planning an excursion program in advance, believe me, it will be easier than chaotically looking for time and available options - during the season, tickets for many excursions are sold out a few days before.
Our budget and list of excursions was as follows, I will immediately indicate links to them for convenience (price per person):
- Jeep safari in Dubai - $ 43 (3,200 rubles)
- Boat trip in Dubai Marina - $ 33 (2,400 rubles)
- Helicopter flight - $ 177 (13,000 rubles)
- Climbing Burj Khalifa - $ 42 (3,000 rubles)
- Sightseeing in Abu Dhabi - $ 60 (4 500 rubles)
- Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo - $ 30 (2,300 rubles)
On the GetYourGuide service, we took a speedboat tour (which I filmed a video about) and a helicopter flight over Dubai (also with a video). And also, the same service is the official ticket salesman for the Burj Khalifa observation deck, so tickets are cheaper there.
